Pre-Olympic "Warm Up"
Schedules, athletes, events
And everything you need to know going into Sochi 2014
Of course the last episode of Tessa & Scott was a good one, and we are looking forward to the finale (2 episodes!). Watching the show has really gotten me excited about the Olympics - that and seeing all the tweets, Facebook posts and news stories about our athletes arriving in Sochi!
FSB had the opportunity to go to the send off for Kirsten and Dylan at the Kitchener-Waterloo Skating Club, and we have had the chance to talk to Gabby Daleman and her parents before she leaves tomorrow! Some athletes have already arrived - Patrick being the first of all the Canadian athletes to be outfitted in his Team Canada gear - and some are just on their way this week.
The Opening Ceremonies will be on Friday, but some events are taking place on Thursday - including the start of the first ever team figure skating event! For those of you who still don't understand this event completely, here is what we know so far:
10 countries are entered into the competition with skaters performing the short programs for each discipline (Men, Women, Pairs, Ice Dance). The countries with the top 5 results (combined scores of all disciplines) will advance to the free programs. Countries do not have to use the same skaters for the long programs as they did in the short. Pj Kwong has informed us that the day before the event, the skaters for each country will be announced. We can expect Patrick Chan to compete at least one program, and we have heard that Tessa and Scott will skate both (although this is not confirmed). We can assume Kaetlyn Osmond will skate one program but are hoping Gabrielle Daleman will also get to compete! Meagan and Eric will skate 1 program, but will they skate both? It will be interesting to see what is decided!
Being that the Olympics are in Sochi, there is quite a time difference. If you are wanting to watch the figure skating events live here is the schedule (EST):
